Subject: Heart Park Update - October 2007
Hello Everyone,
Tomorrow night, Thursday, you're invited
to join fellow South Bay residents hear the latest on the
State's efforts as they study the feasibility of converting the AES power
plant site, and some of the Redondo Beach waterfront, to open
space. Peter Brand of the California Coastal Conservancy will
be talking to this, and Mike Witzansky, Director RB Parks & Rec.
in Redondo, will be talking about other projects like the Seaside
Lagoon. Last but not least, Martin Byhower of the PV/South
Bay Audubon Society will be speaking about Harbor Park, the clean-up of
Machado Lake, and the birds that will return to a restored wetland on our
waterfront.
On another note, here are some actual quotes I wrote
down working the Manhattan Beach Hometown Faire this past weekend - our third
year having a booth, thank you V.O.I.C.E. of Manhattan Beach:
"Excellent!"
"I like it!"
"This would be so cool Mom!" (from a 10 yr.old)
"That's what I want to see happen!"
"Good job!"
"Keep-up the good work."
"We really need something like this."
"Thanks for what you're doing."
And my favorite, from someone who just moved out here
from Boston - talking about the lack of parks we have in the South
Bay:
"Not a lot of'em out here."
Tomorrow's event is free and refreshments will be
served. Bring quarters for parking, or park under the
pier.
Where?
The Veterans Park Historical Library
309 Esplanade (just south of the pier overlooking the
Pacific Ocean)
Redondo Beach
When?
Thursday, October 11th
7-8:30 p.m.
Why?
Because when your grandkids are playing soccer on a
field in the new park, or your getting pushed in a wheelchair along one of the
ADA compliant trails overlooking the Pacific (hopefully it won't take that
long and you'll never need a wheelchair), you'll be able to say you helped
make this magnificent park happen! Oh, and the first 20 guests get a
free t-shirt.
But really, this will be a great way to meet some
like-minded folks, make some new friends, and show your support for the
monumental task we continue to pursue.
